History Park asks San José visitors to look behind a familiar street scene
Original and reproduction buildings offer an introduction to Santa Clara Valley history, with indoor access and events planned separately.

A street at History Park can look like a single scene from the past, but it brings different kinds of evidence together. Original and reproduction homes, businesses and landmarks help introduce Santa Clara Valley history. Asking which is which makes the setting more informative than treating every structure as untouched in its original location.
The fourteen-acre site is at the south end of Kelley Park, with its entrance at 635 Phelan Avenue. History San José describes tours exploring how people lived and worked from 1850 to 1970, connecting changing use of the valley's resources with the region's later identity as a technology center.

A grounds visit and an indoor museum visit need different planning. The operator's current 2026 schedule lists daily grounds hours of 9 a.m.–4 p.m. and weekend historic-house and museum access from noon–3:45 p.m., subject to change. Check the event calendar and call 408-287-2290 about the intended day, special hours and entrance fees.
Choose a topic such as transportation, trade or household work, then follow it across the buildings that are open. If a trolley ride or particular museum matters to your trip, confirm that activity separately. The park is most useful when its appealing streetscape becomes a prompt for questions about the people and work behind it.
